Tree Seedling Program

Our Tree Seedling Program is a reliable source for conifer tree seedlings at a reasonable cost to our customer base. We service local landowners and forest managers.  

 

Our seeds are properly sourced, specific to North Idaho soils, climate, and elevation. We contract with an inspected professional nursery to grow seedlings two years in advance of delivery.  All funds received from sales go back into the program ensuring a sustainable program.

Western Redcedar

(Thuja plicata)

Western redcedar averages 150' in height and grows best on moist sites. It is very shade tolerant and can grow to be over 1,000 years old.

Western Larch

(Larix occidentalis)

Western larch, commonly referred to as tamarack, is most known for its beautiful golden color in the fall. Average height ranges between 100-180' with some exceeding 200'. Larch is very shade-intolerant and loves open spaces.

Lodgepole Pine

(Pinus contorta)

Lodgepole pine, also referred to as jack pine and black pine, has a wide range of environmental tolerance. It can grow in warm, moist, cool and dry areas. Average height ranges between 55-70'.

Douglas-Fir

(Psuedotsuga menziesii)

Douglas-fir, also known as red fir,  can grow to 160' in height. This tree does best in soils which are deep, dry to moist, and well drained. This species is reasonably shade tolerant and is often used in reforestation and post-harvest.

Engelmann Spruce

(Picea engelmanii)

The Engelmann spruce, a landscaping favorite, can grow as tall as 160' but averages between 45-130'. It grows well in frost pockets and has a low tolerance to heat and drought.

Ponderosa Pine

(Pinus pondersa)

Ponderosa pine, also known as bull pine, is a rapidly growing tree which averages 55'- 140' in height. This tree is drought tolerant and can be grown in hot dry sites. Larger ponderosa pine possess a thick bark, which offers it protection from fire damage.

Western White Pine

(Pinus monticola)

Western white pine grows rapidly and typically reaches heights of 150' to 180'. This species prefers a dry to moist sites in full sun.  It will grow on a variety of soils but does best on deep well-drained sites. The variety we sell is blister rust resistant.
